Why does my organization need custom applications?

The common answer to this question is that sometimes the business goals and functionality, which the organization is seeking, are not available in any commercial application.

A less obvious aspect is that often, one size just doesn't fit all. Commercial applications, try as they might, cannot always adapt to each and every unique requirement. Management will sometimes find itself forced to change familiar methods of work in the organization to accommodate to less intuitive methods exposed by commercial applications.
